What do volunteers do?

Community volunteers are essential to making the Procession of the Species happen every year. Procession volunteers contribute many talents and skills. As a volunteer you will meet new friends, work side-by-side with your community members, and learn new art and music skills.
Artists --

Design, teach, or help with a workshop.

Work with a group informally to create masks, costumes, or "floats".

Musicians and dancers --

Perform at the Procession. Teach or play at a workshop, recruit other drummers and dancers, form your own music or dance group.

Help us make percussion instruments and shakers to give out to onlookers and participants on Procession Day.

Involved with a community group?

Encourage your group (class, organization, friends, troop, church) to participate in the Procession together.

Organization --

Locate and transport supplies and materials, make phone calls, distribute flyers and posters, serve as a school liaison, join the core planning team, help raise funds and organize fundraisers, join in various work parties, assist with office/administrative work: answer inquiries, take minutes at meetings.

Day of the Procession --

Perform, lead a group, set up, help manage traffic, clean up.

How much time is involved?

Volunteer opportunities are available year-round and time commitments vary. The planning committee generally meets from September to April. All are welcome. The many volunteers who help on the day of the Procession also make a very valuable contribution.

Other ways to support the Procession

We are seeking donation of funds (through the Corvallis Environmental Center), and donations of art supplies to use in our workshops and classroom activities.
